Zimbabwean artist Tamy Moyo has released a single titled "Kuteera" featuring Jah Prayzah on 1 September 2020. The song has gained a lot of recognition on YouTube. It has around one million views. There are important facts to consider about the single.

Kuteera by Tamy Moyo ft Jah Prayzah
From the music video, "Kuteera"

What is the meaning behind the song? As stated by TheFeedZW on YouTube, Tamy Moyo said, "It is a song about two people who want to be together, who have an undeniable love for each other but they cannot be with each other..." Moreover, she said, "..for whatever reason, they couldn’t be together. It didn’t work out but they will always have a special part for each other..” It is a love song the music video takes place at Victoria Falls. It was a way of presenting Zimbabwe in one way or another, lyrically and visually (TheFeedZW). It way Tamy Moyo's way of appreciating her home country, Zimbabwe.

How do the song lyrics depict love in the song Kuteera? For instance, the word, "Kuteera" is a Shona word which means, "following." Therefore in this case it means following the person one loves wherever they go. For instance, if one looks at the lyrics where it said :

"Magumo ndinoenda, Kuteera kuteera iwe

Zvinoda moyo muchena, Kuteera kuteera iwe

Pandakata handichada, Kuteera kuteera iwe

Ndaitoreva nhema, Kuteera kuteera iwe"

which means in English :

"The end I go to, I follow you

It takes a good heart to follow you

When I wanted to give up, I follow you

I was even lying, I still follow you"

Therefore, the lyrics support Tamy Moyo's statement on TheFeedZW where she said, "It didn’t work out but they will always have a special part for each other..” This could symbolise a toxic relationship in the sense that they know they can't be together. For whatever reason it could be because of a lack of trust or cheating, just to mention a few. It could serve as a lesson that when it comes to a relationship, sometimes love isn't enough. The music video has great visuals depicting the beauty of Victoria Falls. Moreover, the emotions depicted by both artists, Jah Prayzah and Tamy Moyo have proven to be successful.

In a nutshell, the music video and the song lyrics have proven to be intriguing. Not only does it depict the toxic love to which everyone can relate, but it also acts as a declaration of Zimbabwean pride. For instance, the language found in the song lyrics plus the setting where the music video took place. From an African perspective, I believe it is one of the reasons why most Zimbabweans love the track and why it has gained a lot of recognition on YouTube with one million views.

The genre of the track is R&B/Soul.
