The meaning behind the track

Kae Chaps music video, "Gehena" premiered on February 4, 2022. From the title itself, "Gehena" is a Shona word that means "hell. " Therefore, he is telling his ex that she is going to hell for breaking his heart.

Gehena by Kae Chaps

Throughout the music video, Kae Chaps starts singing heartbreaking lyrics. For instance, he said, "Ukaona ndakutsvaga / Ndendada kufa...." which means, "When you see me looking for you/ I would rather die."

As the video progresses, there is a valid reason why he said she will go to hell. She did not only cheat on him. She went on to marry the same man with whom she had been cheating on Kae Chaps. The betrayal is worse for Kae Chaps because he has given his heart to the person he trusts and she broke that trust. It explains why he has turned to alcohol to deal with the heartbreak.

Towards the end, Kae Chaps interrupts the wedding and keeps repeating the phrase, "Ukuenda kuGehena" which means, "You're to getting to hell." She cries, probably regretting breaking his heart.

It is important to note that there is a high-pitched voice when Kae Chaps says, "Ukuenda kuGehena." It clearly shows his pain and frustrations. He regrets wasting his time on someone who doesn't appreciate and respect him enough to value his love.

My Thoughts and Analysis

The music video depicted the storyline of the heartbreak perfectly. The acting was good e.g. when Kae Chaps appeared drunk at the wedding. The production was satisfactory. The percussion beat and consistency were both appealing to me. The vocals of Kae Chaps were great for the track. Therefore, in terms of the message, production and storytelling, I rate the track 10/10.
