21-year-old RnB artist RC3 released an Afrobeat EP titled "Black Magic." It was released in the year 2021. RC3 is an artist from Germany. What inspired him to create the Afrobeat EP?
Usually, his music gravitates towards the RnB/Soul genre because that is what he grew up listening to. That was not until he returned from his trip to Cape Town (South Africa), where he participated in a program to help and work with poor children from nearby townships. And that's exactly where he got his inspiration from: "I was so impressed by the kids dancing to a genre of music that I have never really paid attention to before"(RC3). After that, he returned to Frankfurt, his hometown. RC3 began writing right away and has since released the Afrobeat EP, which features five tracks.
One of the songs is called "Trampoline" (feat. Yourx. and prod. by HANS KARPFEN) and reminds him of his time in South Africa: "It feels like every time I turn on this track I can see myself dancing with the kids and simply enjoying life"(RC3).
What makes the track even more captivating is the meaning behind the track. RC3 said, "Trampoline“ is about a girl that avoided and rejected me in the past but now sees my success and is „bouncing back like (a) trampoline. Back to me“, meaning she wants to be together with me for clout and money purposes. In my verse, I describe that I am very picky when it comes to deciding who I grant access to my heart. I am very good at reading people’s intentions and I will not spend time with someone unless I feel like the person is worth it. Nevertheless (as mentioned in the verse of the Feature Artist Yourx), I will give my best to be a good boyfriend once I have found the right girl. But until then I try to distance myself from people with a lot of negative energy."
When you hear the track itself, it has that afrobeat sound that stays consistent from start to finish. The lyrics are also easy to understand as RC3 said, "Always wanted to get rid of me ooh ooh yeah/ Now you're bouncing back like trampoline..." It is quite entertaining.
What makes it even more captivating is that the featured artist and the producer are both from Africa. RC3 mentioned how he met Yourx: "Me and Yourx met through an app called „Vampr“. I liked his style and I found that his African accent suited the song perfectly. Yourx is Nigerian and calls his type of music DIVINE because it is just a vibe and should not be associated with a specific genre. This is our first song together but there is a good chance that we will make some more music together."
RC3 also mentioned how he met the producer: "HANS KARPFEN aka HUNCE (his artist name) is a good friend of mine that I have been making music with for about a year now. We also met through the same „Vampr“ app and released 5 Songs on all platforms since then. His family is from Mozambique and he works as a pilot. His beats have their style since he loves to work with pitched and chopped up vocals that sometimes function as instruments in his beats. I would describe his music as an alternative but heavily influenced by HipHop (some House and Electronic music too)."
Overall, I loved the concept of the song. It is intriguing and different. The afrobeat sound is chilled yet adequate for the song. I also liked the meaning behind the song. Although, I believe something is missing. Nonetheless, it is a nice track. Therefore, I would rate it around 8.5/10.
