Ever since they released their album, "The Gravel Church" last year, Kristian Montgomery and the WinterkillPoverty band have returned with another album titled, "Prince of Poverty" on March 5th, 2021. The genre of the album is country music.
What is the relevance of the title, "Prince of Poverty"?
As the title suggests, it seems to be about Kristian Montgomery's personal experience. He went to prison after fighting for equal rights for fathers in Massachusetts. Having lost everything, he began to rebuild his life. Upon release from prison, he started working on "The Gravel Church". He wrote about his experiences while he was in prison, starting over and how he found hope (Kmwkb Website). Therefore, Prince of Poverty means something significant. Despite going through life challenges and losing everything, he still rebuilt his life. Prince of poverty is more like him conquering life challenges and not letting them affect his life, especially by releasing music. Prince of Poverty is an album telling his story. He is proud of the type of styles he used in his album.
The Track List :
American Fire
Dont Call Me Baby
Find My Way Home
Just Driving Around
Soul for soul
That Kind Of Love
They'll Remember My Name
Tired Of Being Tired
WARM GRAVE
Working Hands
Each title is self-explanatory. In a way, they tell a story and give life lessons. Furthermore, it embraces the culture of country music. They are not apologetic about it. For instance, I will mention songs such as "Find My Way Home" and "Just Driving Around."
3. Find My Way Home
In this track, the music in the background seems chilled. The vocals have changed to a low pitch. The song is short. What could be the meaning behind this track? It is shown in the lyrics :
"If I stumble, please forgive me / But I will find my way home"
It could mean that no matter what happens in life, they won't change who they are as musicians. They will always find their way home no matter what. With instruments such as drums, and an electronic guitar, it makes the track interesting. Lastly, it has a dramatic effect. It ends with an electronic guitar sound.
4. Just Driving Around
This track is all about positivity. Instruments such as an acoustic guitar and a banjo stay consistent from start to finish. It is about meeting a companion and spending time with them. For example, just driving around. This is shown in the lyrics:
my soul was redeemed / the moment she stepped inside
The soul of country music stands in this song.
Listening to the rest of the album, I have noticed that it usually contains instruments such as acoustic guitar, electronic guitar, and drums, only to mention a few. The soul of country music stands in this album. Kristian Montgomery and the Winterkill band have a strong vocal arrangement. Each track has a consistent beat. It also evokes different feelings or interpretations from the listeners. This is why the Prince of Poverty album is more crucial and significant than what you think. It is a perfect album for anyone who is a fan of country music. Therefore, I rate the album, 8/10.
