Soleil shows her superiority as a woman in the single, "On The Low"

Updated: Jun 9, 2023

Soleil has released a single, "On The Low" with producer VKZ. It premiered on Friday, April 2nd, 2021. What is the meaning behind the song? Why is the track called, "On The Low"? How did the track come into existence? Soleil explains everything. She said,

"VKZ sent me the beat for the song and I came up with the On The Low concept. It's a song about a few things - having a booty call, being a booty call, being an independent woman. A woman who knows what she wants and what she will accept in situations, standing in her power and decision-making in whatever those situations are, not wanting a relationship but enjoying time with a person and keeping it on the low (between each other). It has a real 90's/early 2000's R&B feel."

There are various ways in which the single demonstrates her greatness as a woman. It is shown through the song lyrics. For instance, Soleil said :

"Want you to keep it on the low with me / You can roll with me / You can smoke with me / Wouldn’t mind if you kept holding me / Just don’t fall in too deep / I’m not the one you need / Keep it on the low low low (x3) / Keep it on the low "

In the lyrics, she is not interested in a relationship. Instead, she just wants to have a fun night. She does not necessarily need to commit to a serious relationship. In this case, she knows what she wants and what she will accept in situations. Her soft vocals have brought out the message. Moreover, the repetition of the phrase, "Keep it on the low low low" three times means something. In this case, her voice goes a little bit lower. It clearly shows she wants nothing more than just a booty call. She does not want a relationship. Instead, she enjoys the time with the person. Therefore that is why the single shows Soleil's superiority as a woman.

In the second verse, Soleil goes into detail. She said :

"It’s that time again / When I call you over / only time we talk / is when we’re not sober / Your watch on the dresser / Your shoes by the front / We both know what we want / And If you don’t pick up I won’t call you again / Won’t meet you round town with none of your friends / I don’t care, but your brand new Benz / Can’t you see the diamonds on my hands? / Dripping gold and bands / Stop, wait a minute / Let me light up my incense / Come and show me you’re a man / I left the door unlocked for you so you can let yourself in."

In this particular verse, she seems to change her lyricism to more like rapping. It seemed fast-paced. She is explaining how she wants the booty call to take place. It shows that she is in control of the situation, expressing how she feels. Therefore that is why the single shows Soleil's superiority as a woman. She is the one in control of the situation.

Overall, I believe the track is worth listening to. Instead of a man initiating a booty call, the woman initiates it. Therefore, it shows that Soleil is in control of the situation. Throughout the song, the beat stays consistent from start to finish. It has a guitar playing in the background with a bass beat. It has a real 90's/early 2000's R&B feel. Therefore, VKZ has done a satisfactory job making the beat.

Soleil has managed to harness her craft. She used her singing voice. In the second verse, her lyricism was fast-paced. Therefore, in light of the beat, vocals and lyrics, I rate the track, 10/10.
