Baelondra has released a catchy, upbeat R&B tune titled Too Good on 1 July 2020 followed by the music video on 13 September 2020.
From the title of the song, "Too Good", Baelondra seems to love herself hence she knows her self-worth as a woman. There is a valid reason why she released this catchy, upbeat R&B tune.
Baelondra explains how she came up with the track, Too Good :
"Earlier this year, I had plans to release a catchy, upbeat R&B tune. I didn’t know exactly what it would be about or how it would sound but the intention was already set in my mind. Eventually, I came across the beat for the song that is now Too Good. I released the song back in May, just in time for the summer.
Writing to it came pretty easily. Usually, when I write to beats I’ll hum out or vocalize the melody or some harmonies, and then from there, I’ll start writing lyrics based on the flow of the song I create. Most times, I never know what the words are going to be until I start writing.
The phrase “Cause I’m too good to be true” kind of stuck in my head, and from there the song branched out into something more. Too Good developed into an anthem for women to consider themselves the prize when it comes to relationships. The song begs the question “I’m too good to be true, tell me why should I choose you?”. I feel like a lot of times women sell themselves short when looking for love or while they’re in love.
My inspirations behind the song were Aaliyah and Jodeci. In terms of the sound, you can hear the vocal inspiration and the melody was pulled from a popular Jodeci song. I wanted the song to also have a nostalgic 90’s feel to it and I think I pulled that off pretty well while also giving it a modern twist.
Too Good serves as a catchy, singable reminder for women to advocate for themselves and stand up for what they believe in. Knowing your worth is something you owe to yourself. Next time someone wants to court or pursue you ask “Why should I choose you?” "
From the information above, there are some intriguing facts to consider. The song acts as an advocate for women to know their self-worth. In this case, women should love themselves enough to never settle for less in a relationship. Baelondra also seems to highlight the challenges faced by women which is, "...women sell themselves short when looking for love or while they're in love". From this quotation, she is probably referring to a lack of self-esteem or a mentality where women believe they are not good enough. Therefore, the song not only acts as an anthem for women but teaches the importance of self-love hence women's empowerment.
Another intriguing fact to consider is where Baelondra got her inspiration for releasing her song, "Too Good". She has stated that "My inspirations behind the song were Aaliyah and Jodeci". Aaliyah is known to "...redefine contemporary R&B, pop and hip hop, earning her the nicknames the "Princess of R&B" and "Queen of Urban Pop", and influencing numerous artists of different music genres" as stated by Wikipedia. Jodeci was "...an American R&B quartet with members DeVanté Swing, Mr Dalvin, K-Ci, and JoJo. Moreover, they were known to be, "...one of the most influential groups of the 1990s, and the best R&B group of all time" as stated by Wikipedia. Therefore, Baelondra including these genres especially Jodeci makes the song, "Too Good" intriguing. It explains why the beat of the track has that old-school feeling, especially during the 90s but with a bit of a modern twist.
Lastly, in the music video, the scene takes place at the beach. The video is mainly focused on Baelondra who seems to have confidence in herself hence she knows her self-worth. This is further shown in the lyrics where she said, "...Cause I'm just too good to be true/ Tell me why should I choose you....". Just like Baelondra who knows her self-worth, she is advocating for other women to know their self-worth as well, especially in romantic relationships.
The main message behind the song, "Too Good" is women's empowerment in the sense that it's an anthem for women to advocate for themselves and stand up for what they believe. They should not seek validation from others to know their self-worth. Instead, they should love themselves.
