GED shows Lute celebrating his success in the rap game

The song GED (Gettin Every Dolla) seems to be about Lute getting a lot of money from his rap career.

Dreamville Records has used various methods to promote the single , GED. According to a music review by Gabriella Fox on thehoneypop.com | February 5, 2020, it states that, "If you're a huge fan of the artists from Dreamville, you'd know that over the past two weeks, there have been commercials for their very own GED Card. What's a GED Card you ask? According to the three, fake advertisements, the GED Card is similar to a credit card, as said in the videos, 'Finally a card for you broke a** motherf*ckers!' Along with the videos, Dreamville & Dreamville artist Lute included s website dedicated to the soon-to-be-released single. We're living for the creativity right now".

From my point of view, there are important points to consider. The three, fake advertisements were used to promote his single GED hence why there's the GED card. This means that the fake advertisements were used as a metaphor to promote his single GED. Moreover, the words, "Finally a card for you broke a** motherf*ckers!" is another way of saying Lute is dropping a single titled, GED very soon. Lastly, the way I see it, the website is probably fake too since the advertisements were fake. The use of fake advertisements and website is not only creative but unique. It kept his listeners guessing what he meant.

As stated by Gabriella Fox, "The final commercial is a message from the CEO : Gold Mouf (Lute's alter-ego). He thanks everybody for applying for the card before once again sending them to the website".

From my point of view, this was probably his way of thanking everyone for waiting for his single GED.

What is on the music video?

According to Onaje McDowelle on grammy.com, "The track is accompanied with a Neal-Farmer directed music video, which sees Lute celebrating triumph as hid flashy alter-ego Gold Mouf, throughout several time periods of American history".

Moreover, according to THEHIPHOPGURU, "The visual, directed by Neal Farmer, begins with Lute riding a horse, surrounded by elderly people in awe of his raw lyrics, transitioning into a heated chess match with a white suited man holding his tears. The video shifts to a scene of celebration , with Lute and his squad holding stacks of cash and repping graduation gowns - ".

The way I see it, this is shown on the lyrics below:

"...I'm real 'til I exit the earth, we from where you mix the water with dirt

We had to make that shit work, the struggle been quenching my thirst

I put the tears in my verse, so I get the shit I deserve

We came from nothing at all, if we have a problem, we solve

Figure that shit out ourself, turn all my pain into wealth

Turn all my pain into wealth, shit.."

This shows that Lute had a tough life yet he turned the "pain into wealth". He is now getting every dollar for putting so much effort in his music. This is why the single is about Lute celebrating his success in the rap game.

Although this single GED is about Lute celebrating his success, I believe there is more to it than it seems. The music video showing several time periods of American history is interesting. Not only does the music video show Lute's success, but also in a way highlights the struggles of black Americans. Black people were seen as inferior to the white people. This is because black Americans were not allowed to have the same opportunities as white Americans. Lute using the American history in the music video is not onlycreative but it's also informative. It shows that everyone deserves to succeed in life no matter where they come from.

The single GED and music video were released on the same day on 4 February 2020.
