With three albums and one EP under her belt, Robyn Bennett is back, fulfilling a life-long dream to rap. The track "Take It Slow" invites you to let it go and reconnect with what matters. “Take it Slow” is the antidote to our fast-paced world: chill urban drums, smooth horns and vintage keyboards are the backdrops to a melodic, soaring refrain and a verse that oscillates between rap and spoken word.
Robyn Bennett further explained her intentions when she made the track. She said:
She wants everyone to "Take It Slow" in their daily lives as shown in the lyrics:
"Maybe it's just time to take it slow / They say write a book / Write a blog / Take a picture / Take a reel / Make a video / Tell them all / How do you feel / But if you don't share / Does it make it not real? / All that influx of news / Make us think / That we know about their lives / And their time / How they're feeling inside / But how far will we go / To hide / What we really feel / The smiles / The signs / Brushed up / And touched up / The side of your voice / Where the sadness grows / Is always the one / You choose not to show"
The lyrics are relevant to our daily lives. As an illustration, on social media, if you are a content creator, you are expected to post a picture, a reel etc. Some content creators always post about their achievements and their happiness, yet, we never see the sadness and the struggles they go through to make content. They decide to go on posting (which leads to burnout) instead of taking things slow, and taking a break. As a content creator, I had to take a break because I had a burnout. I had to focus on other things that needed my attention. In other words, I had to "Take It Slow" and take care of myself. The track highlights the importance of putting ourselves first, especially our mental health.
In a nutshell, what I liked about the track was the message behind it. It highlights the importance of taking a break. I also enjoyed the lyric video and thought the editing was excellent. Lastly, I liked the chill urban drums, smooth horns and vintage keyboards. It improved the track's soothing quality. Therefore, I rate the song 10/10.
